About Us

Rowland Jones
At a time when thousands of people of my age, with no aspirations to retire, are being forced out of their mainstream occupation by employers seeking younger talent, many organisations are crying out for experienced, knowledgeable staff. grey-matter is designed to bring together those people with wide experience and those who could benefit from that experience. We are currently still able to offer free membership, enabling you to register and securely display your CV, and view the assignments or services on offer.

Media Interest
Since the launch in mid 2005, grey-matter has invited a great deal of interest in the media, ranging from interviews on BBC Radio to a piece in The Daily Mail featuring yours truly and my cat, Archie, who the editors clearly thought was the more photogenic! (quite rightly so, I admit) BBC Local Radio have shown a lot of interest, with Radio Leicester doing a follow-up piece last week which resulted in even more consultants registering.

Hundreds of Registrations
Our database is now approaching a thousand members, mainly attracting those of you who are seeking work. Obviously to balance this, we need to attract more employers. I recently attended a Jobs Fair in the North West, and spoke to several large employers, such as Fujitsu-ICL, RBS, and several government agencies who were keen to get involved. One issue that did crop up is the apparent reluctance that some of you have to enter personal details: as someone said: “You wouldn’t apply to a company by letter without enclosing a CV!” A good point, I think!!

I can only imagine that people may be a little concerned in terms of security: I would like to reassure everybody that no one can access your personal data from the website: if you express interest in an assignment, you can contact the client via the site: equally the Client can only contact you via the site, and it is only at that point, if you so wish to do so, do you need to give out personal contact data.

What we want to do is to put people with skills and experience, in touch with people who can benefit from those skills and that experience. We need more information to be available to employers: let’s be honest nobody can offer you work if they don’t know what you can do!! So please help us to help you, and enter your CV details. Another development is that an experienced recruitment consultant will be joining us shortly at grey-matter, so we’ve got high hopes that this will help spread the word even further!!

The Future
Building up the database has been a slow process, but we are determined to make this service work. There may be some of you out there, feeling disappointed that you have not found work. I know that there is a large resource of people out there, able and willing to work. I am firmly convinced that with your help, we can build this site up to a point where it will become a natural starting point both, for those seeking employment, and those offering their services.
